Profile
Aurora
Even though she is considered simply of "human species" according to the Osiris logs, for the corporations and many people back on Earth, eugenic people are a sub-species of humans. The corporations present them as advanced, better humans. Commonfolk, however, mostly despise them, calling them labmates or fakes because they are genetically crafted, modified, and raised on eugenics farms. In a sense, eugenic people are both lucky and cursed. They have extraordinary abilities and talents but also lack a proper childhood and family and receive little to no respect from others.
Zarya Mólnija was able to fulfill her duties in 43 years, seven years before the average service time threshold, as a hunter-class tactical operations corporal. This awarded her the right to a personal name, and she chose Aurora. Thus, she left the service of corporations when she was just 54 years old. Eugenic humans can live for hundreds of years. Consequently, severing ties with the corporations is considered a risky move because they need expensive recurring treatment to sustain their modified bodies. The corporations sponsor these services as long as one remains in their service.
Regardless, she had decided to leave TacOps right after she met Phoenix, at the time still human, with whom she fell in love. She wanted to start a new life in deep space colonies with him. She had dreams and ideals.
Phoenix, Aurora, and their best friend Xander were all killed by Daeva in one of the scavenging missions but later revived by Iset the Mother. Aurora's biggest trouble ever since is adapting to her lover's new Neo-human form. Unlike Aurora and Xander, Phoenix was not redeemable since his body was burned and dismembered heavily. Iset had to transcend him into a Neo-human, which meant Aurora and Phoenix had to continue sustaining their "love" with their marginally different and incompatible bodies. Humans and eugenics use carbon-based organic bodies, while Neo-humans use silicon-based synthetic bodies.
Aurora is trying to cope with that confusion, pain, and agony. She wanted to start a new life with her lover, but the first Infestation hit their home. Then one of their salvage runs with Phoenix and Xander turned into a disaster.
Now she finds herself in the service of a Neo-human "goddess" and has no option other than to follow Phoenix, her former lover, into missions that have nothing to do with her own goals. She just wanted to escape her old life and live happily without any concerns or objectives, only to end up with another "mission chain" she is forced to follow. She has to find a way to adapt to and survive these new circumstances. Even worse, she needs to understand if she still loves Phoenix and wants to pursue that kind of life or needs to go back to the world of corporations. All prospects seem dark.
For many among the Osiris crew, Iset is like a mother and mentor, but it's difficult for Aurora to build that kind of relationship with her. Even though Iset revived her and her friends, she cannot forgive her for allowing Daeva into the party. Xander is her ultimate mentor, and she considers him a father figure. The feeling is mutual. Xander always protects and supports her, even when she is playing around. However, he makes sure to give her a lengthy lecture later. In her mind, Xander is like a family she never had. Always reliable, trustworthy, protective, and caring.
